Space Project Manager

Hybrid

Introduction

We are looking for a Project Manager to lead some of SPHERICAL’s most ambitious programmes, including the development of custom chips and electronic modules for deep-space crewed missions. These are high-profile, high-reliability projects with extensive ECSS requirements, carried out in close collaboration with major industry primes. You will play a central role in guiding projects to success - ensuring technical delivery is matched with rigorous quality assurance and effective customer interface - while also contributing to the growth of our project management capability by mentoring junior PMs and shaping best practices across the company.

About SPHERICAL

SPHERICAL is transforming semiconductor chip design using agile techniques and model-based engineering approaches. We leverage advancements in software and machine learning to empower engineers while significantly increasing productivity by 10x. Our mission is to create high-quality electronics tailored for the space industry, including power, control, and mission-specific silicon products.

About the Role

As Project Manager, you will coordinate the internal engineering team - world-class IC designers and hardware experts - and align their work with the strict requirements of space qualification. You will also be the primary interface to external partners and customers, including OHB and the European Space Agency, ensuring schedules, milestones, and documentation are delivered with precision.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical complexity, quality frameworks, and customer engagement, and who is motivated by the opportunity to deliver flight hardware for one of the most important space programmes of our time.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of the lunar fuel valve electronics project, ensuring compliance with ECSS standards.
• Serve as the main interface to ESA, customers and other stakeholders, representing SPHERICAL in programme reviews and progress meetings.
• Ensure project schedules, budgets, and deliverables are met, with clear reporting to both customers and the leadership team.
• Coordinate internal engineering teams, translating technical work into documented deliverables compliant with space QA and PA processes.
• Drive the creation and review of ECSS-aligned documentation (e.g., PA plans, risk registers, NCRs, test reports).
• Manage risks, dependencies, and change control across the project lifecycle.
• Foster collaboration between IC design specialists, system engineers, and QA experts to deliver robust, flight-ready solutions.

Key Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Project Manager in the space, aerospace, or high-reliability electronics sector.
• Strong working knowledge of ECSS standards and related QA/PA processes.
• Track record of delivering complex engineering projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and senior customer representatives.
• Organised, proactive, and comfortable handling the details of schedules, risks, and compliance.
• Experience working with primes (e.g., Airbus, OHB, Thales) or agencies (ESA, NASA) is highly valued.
• Fluency in English (additional European languages a plus).

What We Offer

• Innovative Opportunity: Revolutionise satellite system design using a system-driven IC design approach in the space industry.
• Strong Growth Trajectory: Join a well-funded and fast-growing startup backed by private venture capital and the European Space Agency.
• Expert Team: Collaborate with an ambitious, skilled, and experienced leadership team with strong technical and commercial backgrounds in satellite and semiconductor technology.
• Empowered Environment: Take a leading role in an environment that encourages initiative and supports reshaping industry paradigms.

Practicalities

• Full time
• Location: Based in Schiedamsedijk, Rotterdam, NL.
• Hybrid working environment, min. 1 day/week onsite to build strong team dynamic, focused work from home possible other day.
• Reporting to Jack English, Head of Software Engineering.

If you're passionate about electronic systems engineering and eager to contribute to innovative projects in the space industry, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

Important!

If you think you have what it takes but are unsure that you check every box, we still want to hear from you. Your ability to creatively solve complex challenges and practical experience in designing/building/coding technology tops specific qualifications or tools.

Studies have shown that women and other marginalized groups apply to jobs only when they meet 100% of the qualifications. However, at SPHERICAL, we're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive workplace and encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single requirement.
